WHO AM I?

My Story

I have had past involvement and leadership positions in several organizations on the campus of Western Michigan University. During my first three years of college, I served as section leader and treasurer of the gospel choir. During my sophomore and junior years, I was an active member of the Black Student Union and a resident assistant in the athletic residence hall. I am currently an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, an alumna of Phi Sigma Pi Co-ed National Honor Fraternity, and a LeadCorp Intern with The Office of Student Engagement. With these organizations, I have done all kinds of service and have learned a lot about myself as an individual. I have acquired the skills to conduct meetings, retreats, and workshops. I am the first of my siblings to complete college and earn a bachelor’s degree.

I have had several experiences with youth and education programs throughout my life. Growing up, I never envisioned being a teacher, but one day I realized it would be the best decision I have made in a long time. I believe that schools ought to create an environment for inquiry and quality education. I want to help people become passionate about the thing I love and that is learning. My life experiences and interactions with youth has shaped me to be the advocate for education that I aspire to become.

I am excited about teaching English because I will be able to help cultivate young minds.  Reading and writing are ways that people can become apart of the art. Words become alive
